A ritual container for creating connection, building self trust and opening to inner wisdom.

The Birthing Body
The Birthing Body
Weaving science, anatomy and the art of midwifery. Connect to your pregnancy and prepare for birth rooted in the body and instinct.
This offering is meant to help you embody the wisdom you already have about movement in pregnancy and birth and enhance it by opening doors of knowledge and providing space for experiential learning.
-Practice movements in pregnancy that are conducive to physiological birth. Let’s face it, most of us are not getting the variety and quality of movement we would like! Practicing these movements in pregnancy builds embodied memory and capacity to access these positions instinctually and confidently in birth.
-Cultivate rapport with your instinctual nature. Learning that you can trust your body and what it feels like to be moved by instinct during pregnancy means those pathways will be more available to you in the intensity of labor and birth
-Connect with women who share this experience.
Knowing that you are not alone, that your truth has been witnessed, validated and loved by a cohort of wise women can bring you great strength as you birth and mother your brand new child.

What is “physiological” birth?
Physiological birth is “a birth that involves a woman laboring and birthing her baby in a healthy and uncomplicated way without interventions that alter the functioning of her body. Physiology also encompasses all the individual variations that are not the ‘norm’ but are also not pathological. This includes longer pregnancies, breech babies, twins, membranes rupturing before labor, meconium in the amniotic fluid, slow labors and fast labors.” -Rachel Reed, Reclaiming Childbirth as a Right of Passage, pg. 28-28
Why does it matter?
We know that despite variations in its expression physiological, undisturbed birth is undoubtedly associated with the least risk to mothers and babies. Birth is a rite of passage that initiates women into profound stores of inner strength and a great contact with Love that prepares them for the journey of motherhood. Physiological birth provides a woman and her child (and everyone in attendance) everything they need, from hormonal cascades, to contractions, to the urge to push, to the elation of meeting the baby, to the instinct to breastfeed, everything they need to bond, cherish, and protect this new life while becoming new themselves.
Can I prepare?
There is a way to prepare the body and mind for physiological birth. Much of it is, in fact, taken care of by the physiology of pregnancy. Hormones that relax your ligaments allow the pelvis to flex and open, an altered state of mind that helps you drop rational, critical thinking and drop into instinct and flow, no nonsense emotional states that are clarifying, honest, protective and fierce.
Then what is there for a pregnant person to do? Mostly, the work is in clearing the channel. Open the gates, yield to nature and your own inner wisdom. As sweet as that sounds, the truth is this work isn’t always easy or straight forward. Pregnancy can feel like a labyrinth of emotions, opinions, facts and myths and other people’s shit. But the work is made easier when we come together. Together we uplift the wisdom we witness in each other, we share personal stories of both hardship and triumph, how we made it through and where we see ourselves going.
I am SO excited to gather in movement, wisdom, instinct and sacred circle together!
